5 Things You Should Know This Week – October 26th

Trick or Treating on Broadway

Beware of little ghosts and goblins (and their parents) roaming the streets in search for Halloween candy.  East and West Broadway will be filled with trick-or-treaters on Friday, October 30th from 4pm-6pm picking up candy from local businesses and residences.  So be warned! This event is free and hosted by the South Boston Chamber of Commerce. A special pedestrian traffic flow has been requested.  If you are starting on West Broadway going toward East Broadway, walk on the odd-numbered (southern) side of the street. If you are starting on East Broadway heading to West Broadway, walk on the even-numbered (northern) side of the street.

9 Questions, 1 Ballot

On November 3, voters will decide on the Massachusetts governor, members of the House and Senate, and local offices. While the up-ballot races will set the tone for the national news cycle, voters will also decide on nine citizen-initiated ballot questions, the most certified since 1994. The questions range from collective bargaining for public defenders to changing the law for recreational marijuana use.  Here’s a breakdown of the 9 questions!

Elliott Physical Therapy now offers Hawkin Dynamic Force Plates to Track Strength and Recovery

Elliott Physical Therapy in South Boston has added some impressive new technology to help patients recover from injuries, build strength, and improve performance. The new Hawkin Dynamics Force Plates and TruStrength Dynamometry measure how much force your body produces during movements like jumping, squatting, and landing. The plates collect data 1,000 times per second, giving physical therapists a detailed look at how your body moves and where compensations occur.  With TruStrength, our PT’s can measure precisely and make science-based decisions to guide your care and reach your goals.  Get all the details here.

Become a Holiday Helper

The South Boston Neighborhood House has officially launched its Holiday Helper 2026 program to support local families in need.

With the rising cost of groceries, housing, and everyday essentials, many families are feeling the financial pinch. The program helps ease some of that stress by making sure children have gifts from their wish lists to open on Christmas morning. Want to help? Community members can sponsor a family, shop online wish lists, donate gift cards, or contribute financially. It’s a simple way to give back and support South Boston families this season.  Learn more here.

Save the Date: The 3rd Annual Caught in Southie Festive Stoop Stroll to benefit the Ollie will take place on Saturday, December 12th!  Proceeds from this fundraiser go directly to the Holiday Helper Program! Stay tuned for more details!

Have a wonderful week! Thank you to our Caught in Southie readers and Neighborhood Partners for supporting our local journalism efforts!
