Boston Common Tree Lighting Ceremony 2026

The City of Boston, together with the Province of Nova Scotia, invites you to Boston’s annual Tree Lighting on Boston Common.

Mayor Michelle Wu, the Boston Parks and Recreation Department, and the Province of Nova Scotia will host Boston’s signature holiday celebration, featuring festive entertainment, holiday lights, refreshments, giveaways, and special appearances.

The celebration takes place on Boston Common, adjacent to the Visitor Information Center at 139 Tremont Street. The event typically runs from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., with WCVB Channel 5 providing a live broadcast beginning at 7 p.m.

Shortly before 8 p.m., the holiday lights throughout Boston Common and the Public Garden will light up in sequence. Mayor Wu will be joined onstage by Santa Claus and Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer for the festive lighting.

A sampling village will also feature giveaways and refreshments from H.P. Hood and other participating companies, while supplies last.

Immediately following the celebration on Boston Common, Mayor Michelle Wu, the Friends of the Public Garden, and the Committee to Light Commonwealth Avenue Mall will flip the switch to illuminate Commonwealth Avenue Mall.
