A violent fight outside Croke Park (AKA Whitey’s) on West Broadway was the focus of a recent hearing before the Boston Licensing Board, according to Universal Hub.
The incident happened in the early morning hours of May 31, when police responded to a large fight involving about 15 people outside the bar. Officers found a former amateur boxer from Ireland suffering from multiple stab wounds to his back, chest, head, and arm. He was taken to Boston Medical Center with injuries that were not considered life-threatening.
During the hearing, Croke Park owner Danny Kelly testified that the man had been permanently banned from the bar months earlier because of repeated issues involving heavy drinking and arguments with other patrons. Staff said they refused him entry shortly after midnight on May 31 and that he was not inside the bar that night.
Kelly also told the Licensing Board that there had been ongoing tension between the man and some of the bar’s regulars, but said he did not know who was involved in the fight. The board also reviewed a separate incident outside the bar on May 9 involving another altercation after a man was denied entry.
On Thursday, the Licensing Board is expected to decide whether Croke Park bears any responsibility for either incident and whether any disciplinary action against the bar is warranted.
