South Boston Farmers Market

The South Boston Farmers Market opens on Monday, June 5th from 12pm-6pm! Get some early spring vegetables, such as asparagus, lettuce, herbs as well as potted flowers, from our returning Massachusetts based Freitas’ & Wenger’s Farms. Try local and fresh meat, like grass-fed beef and naturally raised pork from Shamrock Hives Farm this season!

For Opening Day, specialty vendors like ‘More Than Words‘ (non-for-profit book sale) and ‘Tea is the Way‘ (special Nepalese tea) will be selling their products. The SBNDC will give away $2 coupons to it’s market shoppers, valid for fresh and healthy market products (as long as supplies last). Come to the market manager’s tent to get the coupon and our new loyalty market card!

This year’s opening day theme is “Health and Wellness” and related activities will be happening from 12-3pm: South Boston Yoga with a gift card raffle, a Mini Boot Camp led by Motivated Fitness, Blood pressure screening by the South Boston Community Health Center, subsidized Hubway bikeshare membership sign-ups and Re-Think Your Drink presentations (check out their infused water!) by the Let’s Get Healthy Boston Southie Community Champions and an array of give-aways. Check out what WIC, the Boston Medical Center Health Plan and Tufts Health Plan have to offer you.

Our sponsors, East Boston Savings Bank and Tufts Medical Center will be present as well.

Of course, there cannot be an opening day without live music by our favorite market band, Jan and Lou Borelli from 12-3:00 pm.  Last but not least, the Boston Cyclist’s Union will come out with their ‘Bike To Market’ program from 3-6pm. The program teaches young and old alike the basics of bike repair. Just bring down your bike and learn!

The market season begins on Opening Day on June 5th and will go through October 30, and will be held every Monday from 12-6pm at 446 Broadway, on the sidewalk in front of the municipal parking lot.

The South Boston Farmers Market accepts EBT/SNAP, WIC, and Senior Farmers Market Nutrition Coupons, and has the Healthy Incentive SNAP match program (HIP) available for EBT/SNAP users.
