Fitzgerald VFW Post #561 wants you to help them preserve South Boston’s History

We love this project! See a message below from the Thomas J. Fitzgerald VFW Post #561.  We encourage you to participate!

Help Us Preserve South Boston’s History!

The Thomas J. Fitzgerald VFW Post #561 is proud to announce that we have been awarded a $7,500 Edward Ingersoll Browne Fund Grant to research & apply for potential locations for new historical markers throughout the City of Boston (our focus is South Boston).

We’re now looking to the community for your ideas!

We want to hear from residents, veterans, historians, and anyone with a connection to Southie about places you believe deserve to be remembered and recognized with a historical marker.

COMMUNITY MEETING
Wednesday, August 26, 6:00 PM at the Fitzgerald Post – 715 E 4th St

At the meeting, we will:
• Explain more about the Browne Fund Grant and our project
• Share several potential sites we are already considering
• Hear suggestions and ideas from the community
• Discuss the history and significance behind potential locations

Do you know a building, street, site, person, event, or piece of South Boston history that deserves to be remembered? Come share your idea with us!

Can’t make the meeting? We still want to hear from you!

Please send your ideas, suggestions, or information about potential historical marker sites to:

 [email protected]

Our goal is to help preserve and highlight the history that makes South Boston such a special place. We hope you’ll join us on August 26 — or reach out by email — and be part of this effort to preserve our community’s history for generations to come.

Please share this post and help us spread the word!
