Rep. David Biele Supports Passage of Legislation Honoring Law Enforcement Families

BOSTON—Recently, State Representative David Biele joined his colleagues in the Massachusetts House of Representatives in passing legislation known as An Act Honoring Blue Star Families.
The bill requires the Registrar of Motor Vehicles (RMV) to furnish, without charge, a distinctive vehicle registration plate or a distinctive motorcycle emblem to a parent, child, spouse, sibling, or grandchild of a law enforcement officer who has been killed in the line of duty. Family members who ride motorcycles can also receive a “Blue Star Family” emblem to display on their motorcycle plate.
“Every day, law enforcement officers serve and protect neighborhoods across the Commonwealth without knowing what challenges or dangers they will face,” said Rep. Biele.
“This legislation recognizes the selfless dedication of those brave men and women in law enforcement who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our communities and the unimaginable loss their families carry each day. I was proud to join my colleagues in supporting legislation to commemorate these fallen heroes and their families.”
If signed into law, the Blue Star Family license plates would join other special recognition plates currently offered by the RMV. The bill passed the House of Representatives unanimously, by a vote of 156-0.
