Youth Violence Strike Force Makes On-Site Firearm Arrest Following a Call For a Person With a Gun in South Boston

At about 7:30 PM on Saturday, September 18, 2021, officers assigned to the Youth Violence Strike Force made an onsite arrest of Devonta Cardoso, 20, of South Boston on firearm charges while in the area of General Lawrence J. Logan Way and Colonel Michael McDonough Way in South Boston.
Officers were on patrol for an earlier call for a person with a gun. Officers observed a group of males that matched the description leaning on a motor vehicle that was unoccupied but whose engine was idling.
After approaching the group and further investigation, officers recovered a loaded firearm from Devonta Cardoso’s pant leg. The firearm was determined to be a loaded Glock 17 9mm with one round in the chamber and eighteen rounds in the extended magazine.
Officer also recovered two additional firearms that were determined to be BB guns. One was located inside of the motor vehicle and the other was located from a fanny pack that was discarded at the scene by an unknown suspect.
Devonta Cardoso was placed under arrest and charged with; Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Unlawful Possession of Ammunition, and Unlawful Possession of a Large Capacity Feeding Device. He is expected to be arraigned in South Boston District Court.
