Imagine that…a brighter Boston.

Earlier this month, we reported that a Sam Adams commercial was being filmed at Jimmy’s Korner at P + 6th and in and around that block. Well, here it is – the final product – a very entertaining Super Bowl spot where Boston is a little bit brighter with cameos by comedian Lenny Clark and former Celtics Player Kevin Garnett. There are nods to a kinder neighborhood where residents are friendly, kind, and even welcoming to New York Yankees fans….you know…complete fantasy.  There’s even a seedy underground old-school mob reference.

You can check out the video here! Special thank you to Jenn Menjin for sharing with us.  Other locations in the commercial include O Street and Croake Park on West Broadway. Sadly, Jimmy’s Korner caught on fire last weekend and suffered lots of damage.

He does an excellent REAL SOUTHIE ACCENT which is distinctly different from the Boston or Cambridgese
Accents (Damon/Affleck and Kennedy’s). You have to be from Southie (I am P and Broadway) to catch the differences. The real Southie Accent is quite difficult to imitate. You know it when you hear it where ever you are. Love it!

I left my beloved Southie (5th between P and Farragut) in early 60’s for sunny, warm Miami Beach. I repeatedly asked “Are you from Boston”? I respond “ I’m from Southie!”Then I get asked if I knew whitey? Our accent never leaves us.

My mom grew up in Dorchester, Mattapan and Southe. Tenaments on Farragut before Projects and Housing were invented. Her dad ran a ‘ luncheonette’ kind of corner store/ spa as they used to call them, on Emerson/ Broadway. This was a way different Southie than the 50’s,- 80’s and certainly way, way different than the gentrified neighborhood now. She lived there during the Depression…

Though the accents might not be perfect, the scene where the two women are offering each other the parking space….’ No, I insist’… cracks me up.
    Nevah in a million!

…know that? “Nevah in a million” what, exactly? They’d “nevah” be so polite to each other? Over a parking space or in general? Based on what you (think you) know about Southie because what you read in the papers every time we get an inch of snow?

Have you “evah” even been to Southie?

That commercial is one of the most agravating commercials on Tv . One more thing I want to let everyone to know about being from SOUTHIE and saying that you are from SOUTHIE . There were a couple of different requirements growing up in SOUTHIE and having the right to say that you are originally from SOUTHIE . First you must be born to parents who are living in SOUTHIE at the time of your birth . Than you must live half of your life in southie after being born to parents who are living in SOUTHIE . So all of you who have moved to southie for the first time are noway in any shape or form from SOUTHIE .
