The toy and game giant has been weighing a move to Boston since last year, leaving Rhode Island officials scrambling to keep the company in their state. After news of Hasbro’s search broke in September, Rhode Island leaders—including Governor Dan McKee—have been making their case, even meeting with Hasbro CEO Chris Cocks in January to try to keep the company put.
But Boston may have the upper hand. According to Boston Business Journal, Hasbro is eyeing 400 Summer St., the Foundation Medicine building in South Boston, as a potential new home. The 580,000-square-foot space, originally leased by genomic testing company Foundation Medicine, has a large portion available for sublease—making it a prime spot for a corporate relocation.
Hasbro has also considered two other Summer Street buildings, both downtown, sources said: 100 Summer St., the 32-story tower owned by Rockpoint Group; and 10 Summer St., a Millennium Partners mixed-use building at the intersection of Washington Street that features the Primark store on its ground floors.
Last year we reported on Caught in Dot, that Hasbro was considering the Southline building on Morrissey Boulevard. If Southline sounds familiar, it’s because they are the developer who called Dorchester Seaport South. Please, just stop.
It’s expected that the toy giant will be making a decision in the upcoming weeks. So stay tuned.
Editor’s note: Little know fact, I used to work as a “kid wrangler” on photo shoots for Hasbro for several years. Maybe I’ll come out of retirement if they move to Dorchester.Â
