This past year, lots (and lots) of new businesses have opened in the neighborhood!  Here are some of our favorites! Did we miss your favorite new spot? Send us an email at [email protected]

Layla’s 

Layla’s American Tavern is now open at 332 West Broadway.  Maverick Restaurant Group (Lucy’s American Tavern, Bowery Bar in Dot) is the group behind this soon-to-be neighborhood hot spot. Layla’s menu features modern comfort food, craft cocktails and local brews. You can check out Layla’s menu here! 

The LOT on the Dot

BOSTON – Opening on September 22nd, The LOT  will feature a whole schedule of music, food, and fun events at Core Investment’s newest commitment to the emerging On the Dot neighborhood in South Boston. The LOT, an outdoor event space near the popular, year-old Cannonball Cafe, at 383 Dorchester Ave., will feature a movie night, block party, Oktoberfest, holiday market, and more. Petula’s

Rachel Titcomb (formerly of Nautilus and Broadway Restaurant Group) and Mike Shaw (Loco and Fat Baby) joined forces to bring Petula’s to the neighborhood. The menu features locally sourced ingredients, including craft coffee, cocktails, and organically farmed wines, in addition to “healthy and crave-able” dishes like spicy wings, calamari, chips + dip, fresh salads, pizza, steak frites + more!

Jojo

When it comes to beauty services, Southie is abundant with choices, and there’s a new spot in town. Jojo, located at 514 East First Street, offers eyebrow shaping, skincare, and makeup application and is owned and operated by Jojo Kampoures,  licensed esthetician and award-winning brow specialist. To learn more and to get on Jojo’s waitlist…yes, that’s how good she is…you can visit here! 

Dirty Italian 

The Dirty Italain is now open on Old Colony Ave. The menu features a selection of hot and cold sandwiches in sizes Bada Bing and Bada Boom plus a wrap option is also available. Standouts include the Southie Special featuring homemade meatballs, marinara and melted mozzarella, or the DOM with crispy chicken cutlet, melted asiago and pecorino cheese, fresh arugula and lemon dressing. And don’t miss out on the Talya’s Dirty Italian made with peppered ham, mortadella, hot capicola, hot soppressata, hot mix, asiago cheese, lettuce, tomato, EVOO and vinegar.

The Point Clothing Lounge

The Point Clothing Lounge – a high-quality retail men’s shop offering top-quality clothing, sneakers and accessory brands. –is now open at 135 Emerson Street!  The Point recently one the Best of Boston by Boston Magazine for Men’s Clothing! Way to go! It’s also owned by Southie native and all around great guy, Brendan Carter.  Check out The Point’s website here! And follow them on Instagram for the latest! 

Chilacates

69 L Street is now home to the wildly popular Chilacates!  This Mexican street food restaurant has many other locations in the Boston area, including Brighton, Brookline, Roslindale, and Mission Hill, with South Boston becoming the newest neighborhood spot! Chilacates, named for a Mexican pepper, will feature tacos, burritos, enchiladas, quesdillas, tortas and more! We hear Chilacates will also serve beer and wine too! It will be a welcomed addition to the City Point neighborhood! The space at 69 L Street has been vacant since a fire closed Tasty Burger back in 2018.

Grace by Nia

The alluring, modern-day supper club at Grace by Nia puts a new twist on the timeless charm and the decadent aesthetic of supper clubs from a bygone era. Flaunting whimsically chic decor, a soul-infused menu, an intimate stage for live music and creative entertainment, and an enchanting cocktail lounge, Grace by Nia ventures to bring a new brand of cultural vibrancy to Boston’s Seaport. It’s one of the neighborhood’s newest hot spots! Make a reservation, get dressed up and head to Grace by Nia! 

The Yahd

The Backyahd (located at South Bay) announced that it opened its second location, The Yahd!  This new gym offers small fitness classes from strength and conditioning to Backyahd flow. The Yahd (and the Backyahd) not only focuses on your fitness goals but also factors in your body and mind. They offer classes throughout the day and also offer an open gym. The new space is located at 55 West Fifth Street.

Koko 

Koko Cafe Boston is officially Southie’s newest coffee shop! The L Street shop will serve breakfast, lunch, and of course, coffee!  Koko Cafe started off as a mobile espresso and coffee bar but its new location will be its first brick-and-mortar shop!  The menu features everything from espresso to iced coffee plus items like Açaí pitaya bowl, cornbread french toast, baked eggs + chorizo for breakfast.  The lunch menu features BALT, Chicken Pita, Chicken Club plus pierogis for lunch/dinner! They will be open 7 days a week! Koko Cafe is located at 87 L Street.

The “L” aka the Curley Community Center

The Curley Community Center aka The “L” is now open. The membership is currently free for now. All you have to do is register here! The “L” offers a newly renovated fitness center and lots of workout classes. It also has a steam and sauna for your after-workout needs. You can learn more about the Curley Community Center here! 

Bamboo Beach Juice Bar 

Bamboo Beach Juice Bar – located at 687 East Second Street – is now open! The new juice bar features smoothies, wellness shots smoothie bowls, specialty toasts, and plenty of fresh juice! You can check out their full menu here. Hours: Mon-Fri 7am-7pm and Sat/Sun 8am-5pm.

Shy Bird

Shy Bird – an all-day rotisserie, bar and cafe opened its doors in the new Iron Works building on Tuesday night! Shy Bird’s menu features half and whole chicken, fried chicken sandwiches, burgers, pretzels, salads, burgers, beer, wine, cider, and cocktails. Dont’ forget their famous dunks, too! Order with a flight of sauce!

Reelhouse Oyster Bar

Picture yourself with a glass of rose in hand, enjoying freshly shucked oysters by the ocean. Reelhouse Oyster Bar is located at 10 Waterside Ave. in the Seaport District! In addition to oysters, Reelhouse Oyster Bar will also feature Neapolitan pizza and bar snacks, plus beer, wine, and cocktails.  This is the third location for Reelhouse.  Other locations include East Boston and Marina Bay.

Dumpling Daughter

Dumpling Daughter– a local restaurant group that specializes in buns, noodles, and, most importantly, dumplings – is now open at 475 West Broadway! Nadia Liu Spellman is the owner behind the wildly popular dumpling spots and is the daughter of Sally Ling – who owned and operated a Chinese restaurant with her namesake on the waterfront in the 1980s.

SAVR

SAVRTM, a modern, spirited American bistro, is now open at The St. Regis Residences, Seaport with some of the best views around. Led by Managing Partner David Doyle, the menu emphasizes creative comfort classics, elevated bistro favorites, and fresh and often local seafood. You can get the full details here! 

FoMu

FoMu, a Boston-based small-batch ice cream company known for its all-natural ingredients, is now popping up in the Seaport District. FoMu’s signature ice creams are made with coconut milk and a blend of organic, natural sweeteners. This is especially great news if you are lactose intolerant! The new spot located at 155 Seaport Blvd. is open seven days a week from 12pm-10pm. 

Harpoon Pickleball Club

Now the latest addition to the pickleball scene is the Harpoon Brewery‘s Pickleball Social Club! Enjoy pickle-board courts, shuffleboard, and cornhole in conjunction with Hub Sports Boston. Also available icy pickle pops from Wild Pops popsicles and 10-plus draft beers to try!  Open daily from noon until 9 p.m. The new social club also offers lessons and leagues.  You can learn more here. 

Boqueria 

Boqueria is a Barcelona-inspired tapas bar serving a menu of Spanish classics and market-driven specials in a warm and contemporary space. Yann de Rochefort opened Boqueria’s flagship location in Manhattan’s Flatiron neighborhood in 2006. In Boston, Boqueria will offer tapas all day, Spanish-style weekend brunch, weekday lunch, craft cocktails, imported wines, and bar bites served until midnight on weekends.  Also on deck – Sangria Towers! Reservations will be available on both Resy and OpenTable. You can check out the full menu here!
