Dirty old town

The streets of South Boston were dirty before St. Patrick’s Day, now with the aftermath of parade debris scattered on our streets and sidewalks, it is down right  upsetting.  The street sweepers did make a loop of the parade route after the last float and band marched past but apparently it wasn’t enough.  Couldn’t the City of Boston send out a crew to do a thorough clean up?  So now what?  We assume we are suppose to sit tight and wait the two weeks until street cleaning is in effect.

Maybe residents and businesses need to take matters into their own hands and do two things:

  • Call the City of Boston to complain – Mayor’s Hotline: (617) 635-4500
  • Sweep and pick up the area in front of our homes and businesses

Let’s make Southie clean and beautiful.  There is no need to be looking at smashed green Solo cups, cigarette butts and broken bottles.  Take pride Southie.

A great opportunity:

March 24th Volunteer Clean Up 10:30 a.m
Please join Southie Trees and their neighborhood partners for a post parade clean up and tree planting volunteer event. Meet at the South Boston Library at 10:30 a.m. for volunteering. Afterwards we’ll head to the library for a screening of our short film Uprooted and some food. It’ll be a great opportunity to learn about the benefits of trees as well as learning about other events coming up in the spring.

Why are there no sidewalk sweepers in boston?

Street cleaning doesn’t take care of the sidewalks, front yards or what disgusting dog owners leave behind.  Everyone owns a broom and trash bag so with the unusually warm weather here there is no excuse.  Take some pride and get out and clean up the front of your property or the property you live in.  When street cleaning starts maybe the streets will actually get cleaned.

since the every bar and liquor store made a killing over the st patrick’s day weekend then they should front the 2nd sweep cleaning after the parade.Otherwise why do we still have the ridiculous parade still going on?

The only people in South Boston who are making money over this weekend are the bars and liquor stores.I think they should share some of their profits to help clean up he streets.Otherwise let’s stop and think why do we still continue to have such a RIDICULOUS parade?
