So long for now!

Well, we knew it was on the horizon – The Playwright would be closing for some major renovations.  Back in March of 2021, the Boston Planning and Development Agency approved a development proposal for the Playwright and the parking lot next door.   The new development will include a 4-story mixed-use building that will expand the ground floor restaurant space while retaining the Playwright Bar and Restaurant. There will be office space in addition to eight residential units.

The Playwright made the official announcement on Instagram on Wednesday stating it would be closing on March 23rd.

The rumors are true, Southie. The Playwright will be closing on March 23rd for renovations – you all love us so much we had no other choice but to double in size (but don’t worry, we’ll never lose our charm 😉). To our loyal favorites: we’ll miss you every single day and will be counting down the minutes until we can hug and hang with you all again.

Alexa, play Don’t You Forget About Me by Simple Minds.

So go get your brunch shot flights and your steak and cheese egg rolls before The Playwright closes!

A-Hole owner doesn’t give a shit about residential neighbors. Go back and listen to his testimony at the ZBA.
