Inspired by Boston Magazine’s and Improper Bostonian Boston’s Best Awards, here are our Weekend Picks infused with some of the South Boston winners!  

Eat:
One of the most under the radar restaurants in Southie, Cafe Porto Bello (672 East Broadway) is a cozy spot that offers amazingly delicious Italian food.  From chicken parm to veal marsala,  Cafe Port Bello offer lunch and dinner and also delivers!  If you haven’t tried their pizza yet, you’re missing out!

Drink:
Raise your glass to Local 149 (149 P Street)!  They won best bar in South Boston – no surprise judging by the packed house every night.  With many craft beers on tap and cocktails like the Pleasure Bay Sangria and the Moscow Mule, Local is the perfect spot enjoy drink and appetizers – like Mac n’ Cheese Fritters, Pigs in a Blanket and Hog Wings –  with friends this weekend! 

Shop:
Southie is turning into a shopping mecca!  This category is filled with winners including Dew Luxe (36 A Street), Neatly Nested (373 West Broadway), Covet (395 West Broadway), and Bringing Up Baby (663 East Broadway) Stop by and congratulate them on their Boston’s Best award!

Experience:
Who doesn’t love the Lawn on D? This Best of Boston winner is featuring a surreal exhibit this weekend – Giant Inflatable Rabbits – honestly who wouldn’t want to see that.  Five inflatable two-story-high rabbits will be intruding The Lawn on D Thursday to Sunday! Artist Amanda Parer has been traveling the world with Intrude  – a temporary exhibit evoking childhood memories of wonder – in countless countries.  This exhibit will be available for viewing from Thursday – Sunday and it’s free! 

Laugh:

Brunch:
It’s all about Frank on Sunday at Lucky’s Lounge on Congress Street.  Voted best bar in Fort Point by the Improper, Lucky’s serves up some tasty dishes in honor of the main man himself, Frank Sinatra.  Try to Sinatra Omelet with creamy fontina cheese, smoked prosciutto and diced tomatoes, topped with sauteed mushrooms and potatoes any way.   If you’re more in the lunch mood the Lucky Burger is the way to go: diner style with caramelized onions, lettuce, tomatoes and pickles on a sesame bun.  If you’re torn between lunch and breakfast, add an egg over easy to your Lucky Burger. Sunday brunch is served 10am until 3pm, with live music by the Ron Poster Duo featuring Alex Macdougall from 11am until 2pm covering everything from Come Fly With Me to New York, New York and everything in between. Get gorgeous this weekend at these two beauty spots located in the Cahill Building at 840 Summer Street.  Sarra’s Lauren Genatossio is Boston Magazine’s Best of winner for Eyebrow shaping – and winner for best makeup by the Improper Bostonian.  Kara Kurston from Shag won Boston Magazine’s best for women’s haircut. 

See:
Ahoy there! Welcome back to Boston Harbor, Sagres!  The Portuguese Navy’s Tall Ship comes back to Boston Harbor on Friday, July 10th. The beautiful steel-built, 3-masted barque is an official training ship of the Portuguese Navy. She was last in Boston Harbor while participating in Sail Boston 2009. The Sagres will sail into the harbor, Friday morning, July 10th and dock at Fan Pier in Boston’s Seaport District. The ship will be open for free public tours during her stay from Friday, July 10 through Monday, July 13.
Public viewing hours are:  
Saturday, July 11 – 10:30 a.m. to 10:30 p.m.
Sunday, July 12 – 10:30 a.m. to 10:30 p.m.
Monday, July 13 – 10:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
