One Less Car! We all know how tough parking in Southie is. Imagine fewer cars. As part of greener South Boston, Planet Southie is proposing this idea. On September 27th, join Planet south for a very special meeting focusing on alternative transportation issues and solutions. Join your neighbors and elected officials to discuss improving bus, walking and biking options for our neighborhood. This will include discussion of access for disabled persons. Thursday, September 27 from 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm at the Distillery Building, 516 E 2nd St.
Paint:
The Urban Art Bar is open! No experience necessary. Pick a painting you like from their calendar of events, sign up, and enjoy a night of guided painting led by local Boston artists while you sip a glass of wine. Sounds like fun to us! Celebrate:
We are just past the half-way point to St. Patrick’s Day. Celebrate at the Seapoint (367 East Eighth) on Sunday, September 30th. At 6pm, the Irish band Inchicore takes the stage and will have you clapping your hands, tapping your feet and up and dancing for sure. There is no cover charge so gather up a group, order up a round of Guinness and show your Irish pride! Also, the Seapoint has a new edition to there many televisions – a new 80 inch flatscreen – nice! A perfect spot to watch the Pats!
??Recycle:
Have an old TV or air conditioner you want to get rid of? (They are much to heavy to be a spot saver.) Mayor Menino and UMass Boston is sponsoring a free household electronics recycling event. Stop by Saturday, September 29th (rain or shine) from 9am-3pm at the Bayside Expo Parking Lot (200 Mt. Vernon Street) with you old computers, televisions or any electronics and drop ’em off! You’ll feel so much better and your helping to make Boston a little bit greener! ?
Listen:
Listen to readings by local authors and poets at the Small Press Festival at Medicine Wheel (110 K Street). On Saturday, September 29th at 7pm a special collaboration with Ibbetson Street Press and Medicine Wheel’s Spoke Gallery’s exhibition, Terrain and will feature the word terrain and all of it’s meaning. Participating local presses will included the Cervena Barva Press, Wilderness House Literary Press, South Boston Gazette, Off the Grid Press, and the Ibbetson Street Press. Books will be available for purchase, and a small reception will follow.?
Eat:
The leaves are turning and the temperature is dropping. We all know what that means: Fall is here! What better way to celebrate the season than seeing what’s cooking in South Boston? Some of the local restaurants are serving up new dishes in honor of seasons changed. Check ’em out here:
Drink:
Roll out the barrel! It’s Octoberfest at Harpoon Brewery (306 Northern Ave). Come celebrate the fall season Harpoon-style with Harpoon and UFO beers an traditional German food. Admission is $20 and includes one drink ticket and souvenir cup. Must be 21 plus. We hear there is a real “oom pa pa” band too. Friday, Sep 28 5:30pm – 11:00pm
