On March 2nd from 6:30 to 10:30pm there will be an opening/public viewing of [T]HERE, a new show of artwork by Andres Montes at La Factoria Del Color located at 15 Channel Center Street, Studio 517, Boston, 02210 (Fort Point/South Boston).
La Factoria Del Color (LFDC) is not a traditional gallery per say- in fact it is located in the live/work studio of Spanish artist Ivan Fernandez-Gonzalez. Ivan is a Spanish artist living and working between Boston and the via Padova area, in Milan (Italy). He has aptly named his studio Coyote Painting Walls. LFDC is open to the public during the exhibition happening. After that anyone interested in visiting the current exhibition or just have a look at the studio can do by scheduling an appointment via sending an email to: [email protected]
So what is LFDC? According to Ivan, it is “an underground art space with the purpose to act like a melting pot between the artist, their creative ideas and the public that want to enjoy pure art in a simple way, without any kind of commercial contamination. The concept of La Factoria is pretty easy: We want to offer the artist the possibility to show the creational process and give the visitors the opportunity to know more about how an artist is conceiving his/her own work having access to the material that are not usual. For that reason we have decided to offer our studio to international and local artists in order to exhibit not their final work but the “work in progress”, that means draws, drafts, ideas, notes, pictures, models.”
I asked Ivan what should one expect from the upcoming show?
Andres Montes is a multidisciplinary artist born in Mexico and formed in the United States, currently, lives and works in Madrid, Spain. His creative interests explore the poetics of displacement, investigating concepts such as permanence and impossibility, as well as the strategies employed in the creation of personal space. Through the exploration of diverse materials and techniques that range from drawing to installation, sculpture or video, he endeavor to discern the representations of silence, nomadism and exile. This interest comes from the artist´s personal practice, from his personal experience and relationship with the city and its geography, his psycho-geographic relation with it, as well as the relations individual/collective, identity/memory.
His recent shows include “I Am Home” at the Sala Maruja Mallo of the Centro Cultural Las Rozas (Madrid), the collective exhibition “Do Not Disturb” at the Centro Cultural Galileo (Madrid), and his participation as guest artist at the Centro Cultural San Clemente de Toledo, (Castilla la Mancha), as well as in the exhibition “Hábito/Habito” and the Festival INSONORA in Madrid. He is the Editor and Director of Fine Art initiatives for Cantartica Magazine
So what exactly is Ivan’s Coyote Walls Painting, you maybe asking – so I asked Ivan to explain it….
Coyote Painting Walls is not just a nom de plume but an art project itself, a melting pot where journalism, marketing techniques and painting are merged to create a new language and imagery. In the Coyote Project aesthetics is used to transmit messages of social responsibility and awareness through a new interpretation of marketing and branding. Political and religious icons, brand and consumerism symbols are decontextualized and associated with new cognitive contents. Social media and web flank acrylic painting, illustration and murals in a new media network allowing to spread images and contents simultaneously all over the globe.
